Rockingham, NC (Vocus) October 6, 2010
Historic Rockingham Speedway will be rockin’ this weekend with the 2010 ARCA Racing Series season finale presented by RE/MAX and Menards. Forty-eight cars are currently entered for the race. On Saturday, October 9th, the 200-lap American 200 will start at 1:30 pm for stock car fans.
The City of Rockingham will host a downtown party, Thunderfest, on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and will feature a driver autograph session at 6:30 p.m. Drivers that will be in attendance include Tim George, Jr. and Ty Dillon. Sheltra, Goess, Hessert, and nine-time ARCA Racing Series champion Frank Kimmel are also scheduled for the autograph session.
Opened in 1965, Rockingham Speedway challenges any driver with its multi-grooved surface. Its 1.017 mile track has the first two turns banked at 22 degrees and 25 degrees for the final two. The rough surface can wreak havoc on tires and suspension and will be important factors in who will finish first among the top three drivers – Sheltra, Goess, and Hessert.
The ARCA racing series presented by RE/MAX and Menards included 20 events at 17 tracks in 2010.
The series crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its first season in 1953, and has toured over 200 racetracks in 28 states since then.
The Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA), founded by John Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in two professional touring series and local weekly events.
