Who would think a dentistry museum could be fun?
Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) October 8, 2010
Baltimore-based interactive agency Alexander+Tom (A+T) has been awarded the Education Standard of Excellence in the 2010 Web Marketing Association’s WebAward for Outstanding Achievement in Web Development. The Web Marketing Association has held the annual WebAward Competition since 1997, and continues to set the standard of excellence for website development today.
A+T was honored for its work on the University of Maryland’s National Museum of Dentistry (NMD) website at http://www.dentalmuseum.org. “The National Museum of Dentistry is a gem. Who would think a dentistry museum could be fun?” commented Billy Twigg, President & CEO of A+T. “But it is—the museum is very funny, a little quirky, and has a sense of humor about itself. Our job was just to capture that cool, imaginative, and interesting flavor and make it all feel approachable through the website.”
A+T redesigned the site with bold, colorful graphics and an easy-to-use interface. The new content management system (CMS) features custom, easy-to-use templates that enable the NMD site administrator to easily create updates to the site and manage contact lists for e-newsletters. On the main page, site visitors are greeted by an interactive Flash stage that pulls in images, allowing for easy updates by NMD’s communication and outreach staff. A+T also integrated social media buttons for visitors to engage with museum staff and fans, and built a simple e-commerce module that features hundreds of NMD products.
“Great content makes a great site. They have great stuff presented in a very interactive way,” explained Mr. Twigg. The easy-to-use and well-organized website received such praise from judges as “good looking design, clean and clear”, and “the interaction is very effective in telling the oral hygiene message and still keeping viewers engaged.”
Designed as an educational tool on the importance of oral health, NMD’s website encourages viewers to visit the museum’s wide variety of exciting exhibits and reflects the fun, quirky, and unusual entertaining nature of the museum. “This is our fourth digital project for NMD,” added Mr. Twigg. “They are always bringing innovative, interactive concepts to the table. I hope people check it out.”
