Rockville, MD (PRWEB) October 8, 2010
The People Awards, in its first year of naming excellence in healthcare, honored more than 30 winners across a diverse group of categories focused on patient-facing disciplines like medical directors, nurses, case managers, social workers, psychologists and translators. The 32 winners came from a pool of more than 100 finalists, all of whom are involved in the large but interconnected area of care coordination.
The award winners and all finalists are featured in the cover story of the October/November issue of Case In Point, which contains descriptions of their trendsetting accomplishments. The winners also are listed on the People Awards website.
The ceremony featured a keynote presentation from Dr. Norman Makous, author of “Time to Care: Personal Medicine in the Age of Technology,” who compared his call for a “focus on individual patients” with the inclusive theme of the awards program, the first half of a two-day event focusing on the extended care coordination team. The Dorland Health Care Coordination Summit will take place in the same venue on October 5.
“This is really an outreach – and a celebration – of all the practitioners who positively influence patient care,” said Anne Llewellyn, chairperson of the event and editor in chief with Dorland Health. “In our own outreach efforts at Dorland we are trying to bring together the disparate parts of healthcare into a united front that enhances care, streamlines the system and ultimately benefits the patient.”
The 2010 Dorland Health People Awards mark the inaugural launch of the program. The full list of award categories include behavioral therapist, case/care manager, chaplain, clinical nurse, disability manager, disease manager, ethicist, geriatric care manager, health/medical advocate, hospice/palliative care professional, life care planner, medical director, medical translator, nurse practitioner, occupational therapist, pharmacy, physical therapist, physician assistant, psychologist, quality manager, rehabilitation, social worker, vocational rehabilitation specialist, and wellness.
