Compass Knowledge Group, a premier provider of distance learning services, has partnered with Eastern Kentucky University's College of Justice & Safety to offer a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety degree program online. Classes will begin in January 2011.

This degree program is designed to prepare students for a professional career in the field of occupational safety in a variety of settings. In the private sector graduates of this program can hold positions as a safety coordinator, safety manager, or safety consultant. In the public sector, graduates can hold positions such as an OSHA compliance officer, or as a safety professional in a variety of organizations in public institutions.

"Many individuals in safety positions were appointed without a safety degree simply because they were good workers, although they had little training in the vital areas that they manage as safety professionals," said Dr. Michael Schumann, EKU Program Coordinator for the Bachelor's in Occupational Safety degree program. "With this new online degree program at EKU, students will have the opportunity to gain confidence in their safety positions by understanding the theory and most up-to-date best practices. Online course delivery takes away geographical boundaries and enables EKU faculty to deliver high quality education to students worldwide. EKU has made a significant commitment to serving the educational needs of working adults with the addition of this degree to their online MS in Safety, Security & Emergency Management and online BS degrees in Fire Protection Administration and Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology. We are proud to be their partner for this additional online program."
