DayOne Health’s participation in the Walk From Obesity is our way of helping raise awareness of obesity and treatments like the LAP-BAND - Guita Griffiths
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 11, 2010
DayOne Health, a leading outpatient weight loss surgery program located at the 900 North Michigan Surgery Center in downtown Chicago, was a contributing sponsor and participant in the 2010 Chicago Walk From Obesity, held Sept. 25 at the Oak Brook Park District. DayOne Health has joined with other organizations and volunteers to raise almost $9,000 for the ASMBS Foundation, the charitable arm of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, to raise awareness about obesity.
This is DayOne’s second year as a sponsor and contributing participant in the walk, for which 2010 was the third year in Chicago. The Chicago 2010 Walk from Obesity raised $8,864 for the foundation.
“We really appreciated this chance to support the local community and also to meet with patients and talk about our LAP-BAND program,” said Guita Griffiths, president of DayOne Health. “We can’t wait to be a sponsor next year. We hope that in the years to come, more people will participate and raise more funds.
“We aim to raise awareness of the growing obesity problem in America, and we hope our support of this event has helped make that happen.”
The Walk from Obesity began in 2003. Since then, according to the ASMBS Foundation, it has grown into the nation’s largest gathering of people affected by obesity, raising more than $3.9 million in the process.
In the Walk from Obesity, people whose lives obesity has touched gather in cities all around America to publicize the condition’s negative effects and to support each other. In 2008, the event raised more than $850,000 for the ASMBS Foundation and the educational and advocacy programs of the Obesity Action Coalition, the ASMBS Foundation’s partner.
In another effort to spread the message about possible solutions to obesity, DayOne Health is offering the chance to receive LAP-BAND® Surgery at no cost. Twelve months of free follow-up care are included.
Prospective patients have until Oct. 31st to enter the DayOne Health LAP-BAND® Give Away Contest. Entrants need only submit a short essay that states why they desire LAP-BAND® surgery and why they should be chosen among all submissions. Over one hundred people have already submitted their entries!
Obesity is a national problem — but it is also a regional and local one. More than 30 percent of Illinois residents are obese, and many people would like to be treated but cannot because of economic concerns, Ms. Griffiths said.
With this contest, DayOne aims to help one deserving, motivated patient achieve his or her health goals while spreading the word about the effectiveness of bariatric surgery for patients committed to the lifestyle changes involved.
The DayOne Health LAP-BAND® Give Away contest is open to anyone 18 or older who meets the medical eligibility requirements. Full contest rules and entry forms can be found at http://www.dayonehealth.com.
