Faculty from Center for Health Policy & Ethics to host open house

Faculty and representatives from Creighton University, known for its research and programs in health care ethics, will attend the annual meeting of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) to talk about the school’s online Master of Science in Health Care Ethics. The event takes place October 21-24 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel in San Diego, CA. Creighton representatives will be at booth 208.

The M.S. in Health Care Ethics program is an interdisciplinary degree offered through Creighton’s Center for Health Policy and Ethics. In addition to attending the ASBH meeting, faculty from the center will be on hand to talk about the center, the health care master’s program, and developments in the bioethics field at an open house. Among the faculty members attending will be Dr. Amy Haddad, the director of the M.S. in Health Care Ethics program. Dr. Haddad was recently elected for a three-year term as a Member-at-Large of ASBH and will be formally appointed to the Board at the annual meeting. The open house will take place Thursday, October 21, from 6:30 to 7:30 in room Aqua 310 of the hotel.

Creighton’s online Master of Science in Health Care Ethics is ideal for health care professionals-- as well as individuals working in fields such as counseling and ministry--who want to build their knowledge of bioethics to be more effective on the job or who are interested in serving on policy-making committees. Students develop an understanding of the role of ethics in health care, examine the various issues and factors affecting the field and cultivate their ability to explain, justify, analyze and write about ethical decisions in health care. The program reflects Creighton’s core Jesuit and Catholic values of conscience, compassion, and concern for the poor and marginalized with its emphasis on vulnerable populations and social justice.
