5th & 6th Grade Snow License® Program
Nellysford, VA (Vocus) October 12, 2010
Wintergreen Resort must be crazy. “Kid-crazy” to be more accurate. The popular family, mountain top destination is offering complimentary ski and snowboard passes to every 5th and 6th grader in the greater Mid-Atlantic region, good for three visits throughout the upcoming winter season. What happens if they all show up? It’ll look like Lollapalooza on snow.
The free passes are part of Wintergreen’s “5th & 6th Grade Snow License® Program,” designed to encourage skiing and snowboarding opportunities for an emerging young audience. The program is open to all Virginia, North Carolina, D.C., Maryland and West Virginia students currently enrolled in 5th or 6th grade, including those who are home schooled.
“We feel it’s important to introduce snow sports to new audiences,” said Jay Roberts, vice president of mountain operations for Wintergreen Resort, located in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, twice named "Best Ski Resort" by the readers of WashingtonPost.com and one of the Mid-Atlantic's premier ski areas. “This program, while innovative in our area, is part of an industry-wide effort focused on attracting newer, younger participants and converting them into loyal skiers and riders.”
Children who enroll in the Snow License program will receive a complimentary lift ticket for based on the purchase of an adult lift ticket, which is discounted by $15 for an 8-hour session or by $10 for a 4-hour lift ticket. Each Snow License holder will receive three complimentary lift tickets per Snow License. The program runs Sunday through Friday throughout the season, with blackout dates as follows: 12/29/10 – 01/02/11, 01/16/11 and 02/20/11. An additional adult or sibling may purchase a lift ticket at the same discounted price but no other special offers apply. The maximum ratio is one adult per two Snow License participants.
Program participants and accompanying adults/siblings are eligible to purchase a $25 rental or $30 rental/learn to ski or snowboard lesson per visit (includes 8-hour ski or snowboard rental and a 1.25 hour introductory ski or snowboard lesson with the lesson package).
The program is free. Visit http://www.wintergreenresort.com/snowlicense for further details and to enroll in the program. Participants will be required to submit an application, and on their first visit to Wintergreen will need to stop by the ski office to pick up Snow License credentials. Please allow a minimum of 24 hours after registering online for the application to be processed and ready for pick-up.
