Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 12, 2010
iolo technologies, recognized as the fastest-growing US company in 2010 and 2009 by the American Business Awards, today unveiled version 10 of its award-winning System Mechanic PC performance software. Focused on achieving maximum PC speed, this eagerly anticipated advancement debuts multiple new tools and features including Program Accelerator™, based on iolo’s newly filed patent-pending data storage optimization technology; CRUDD Remover™, which automatically finds and relieves PCs of unused software redundancies; the Whole Home Licensing™ Program, where consumers can install the software on as many home PCs as they own; and hundreds more user-requested refinements throughout the product.
System Mechanic, used globally by 32 million people to maintain more than 75 million computers, has been the #1 best-selling PC performance and tune-up software in the US, Canada, UK, France and Benelux countries for several years according to NPD and similar sources, and is consistently ranked at the top of its category by industry authorities and technical experts worldwide. Following iolo’s commitment to first-to-market ingenuity, System Mechanic 10 builds on its 12-year record of breakthrough innovation by incorporating new patent-pending technology and pioneering several exclusive approaches to PC performance.
Enhanced Tune-up Definitions™
Unique to System Mechanic, Tune-up Definitions are weekly “automatic intelligence updates” that instruct the product on how to diagnose and resolve newly discovered threats to PC performance and stability, making it increasingly effective over time. Based on extensive ongoing research from iolo Labs, Tune-up Definitions in System Mechanic 10 have been expanded by nearly 25 percent over the past year with critical data about five key performance-enhancing areas.
Deeper and More Effective
Following nearly a year of research, iolo Labs identified two new prime factors - program misalignment caused by file system entropy, and resource deadlock caused by incremental software redundancy - that result in the symptomatic loss of computer performance over time, contributing to a total of nine root causes of PC slowdown. With version 10, System Mechanic is now the first and only PC performance software designed to diagnose, resolve and prevent all nine root causes of PC slowdown, preventing and reversing years of wear and tear caused by everyday use and ensuring like-new operation for as long as users own their PCs.
Key new features in System Mechanic 10
1. Program Accelerator™ is the first file storage calibration technology that addresses the modern problem of program misalignment.
Disk defragmenters, originally invented in the 1980s to ensure that individual files were stored contiguously on a hard drive, fail to effectively consider today’s complex software programs with critical interdependencies and relationships with potentially hundreds of dependent files, each of which must be read as the program is used. While modern programs and their associated files may be initially aligned for maximum performance on a new PC, they become disjointed and scattered across the hard drive as a result of ongoing Windows and program updates, and other general file operations. While disk defragmentation can make a single file contiguous, it cannot solve the problem of broken data relationships, and in many cases even worsens performance by indiscriminately moving files related to a single program into remote physical locations around the drive in a blind attempt to make each one individually contiguous. Ultimately, this misalignment causes severe levels of unnecessary hard drive head movements and processing churn, which results in programs taking increasingly longer to load and becoming progressively less responsive over time.
Using iolo’s patent-pending optimized data storage technology, Program Accelerator™ automatically re-aligns all programs and their dependent files on a hard drive, a process that by nature also results in the full elimination of any file fragmentation, so systems are both re-aligned and made contiguous using one efficient tool. The result is faster program startups and increased responsiveness, with initial iolo Labs studies showing significant performance gains – even on brand new PCs – after using Program Accelerator™ alone.
2. CRUDD Remover™ is the first tool that offers an intelligent and simplified way to identify and remove redundant or unused software.
iolo Labs research has discovered that redundant software – programs that duplicate or overlap in their core functions – in many cases represent a greater threat to performance and stability than even virus or spyware infections. Multiple programs aiming to provide the same functionality often attempt to “lock” the same vital system resources for their exclusive use, resulting in resource deadlock with symptoms of acute performance loss and unpredictable freezes. In some cases resource deadlock caused by redundant software can render a machine completely inoperable.
CRUDD (Commonly Redundant or Unnecessary Decelerators and Destabilizers) Remover™ automatically identifies and classifies redundant programs, offering expert advice about their impact on overall speed and stability. Users then make an informed choice about which programs to keep and which ones to remove using easy-to-understand supporting information, all based on ongoing iolo Labs research updates that keep the tool informed of the latest redundancies.
3. iolo’s new Whole Home Licensing™ program is the first in the industry to break the “up to 3 PCs” licensing limit imposed by other software companies. iolo recognizes that many of today’s homes have more than 3 PCs and believes families should not be required to purchase expensive site-licenses just to cover all of the computers in a contemporary household. As a result of listening intently to its customers and their needs, and beginning with System Mechanic 10, iolo’s products can be installed on all computers in a single-family home under one license.
In addition to these and other breakthrough new features, System Mechanic 10 introduces the Super Control Panel, which unlocks hundreds of secret Windows configuration settings, and the new Internet Connection Repair tool, which detects and automatically repairs bad or broken connections, while also ensuring the web access is clean, fast, and reliable.
Finally, System Mechanic 10 includes hundreds of additional enhancements throughout the product, including further improvements to its suite of one-click PowerTools™ and patent-pending ActiveCare™ proactive maintenance technology. The program has also been fine-tuned to start up and perform its operations up to 600 percent faster. The PC Performance Status desktop gadget and Windows 7 Jump Lists have also been enhanced to allow convenient instant access to frequently used tools.
System Mechanic 10 is automatically available at no charge to all existing users of System Mechanic with an active service plan, which also provides free access to ongoing Tune-up Definitions, as well as product updates and upgrades. New or existing users without a service plan can purchase System Mechanic 10 directly from http://www.iolo.com, via all major web e-tailers, or in one of more than 18,000 retail storefronts that carry iolo’s products worldwide.
