Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (PRWEB) October 15, 2010
Hewlett-Packard Malaysia and Microsoft Malaysia have topped the competition again and have taken almost half of the available categories in this year's, the 9th edition, of the Computerworld Malaysia Readers Choice Awards (RCA). Commonly acknowledged as the 'Oscars of the IT industry', the awards were presented on the 13th October at the Doubletree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
All told, the lion's share of the awards went to HP Malaysia and Microsoft Malaysia, which received 10 awards each. Other star performers were: Cisco with four awards; IBM Malaysia and SAP Malaysia with three each; and, Symantec Corporation with two.
The honour roll also included: APC by Schneider Electric, Apple Malaysia, Check Point Software Technologies, Citrix Systems, CommScope, Dell Sales Malaysia, EMC Corporation, Lenovo Malaysia, Red Hat Asia Pacific, SAS Malaysia, Telekom Malaysia and VMware.
The Awards go to vendors, products, services or solution families that score the highest with their customers in the areas of price, performance, feature sets, reliability and ease of use. Their customers do the actual evaluation and then participate in an online survey.
Every year, Fairfax Business Research, the research arm of Fairfax Business Media, conducts the awards survey on behalf of Computerworld Malaysia, following industry best practices to deliver statistically valid results from the country's qualified information and communication executives, including Computerworld Malaysia readers.
There are altogether 45 categories divided into eight award sections: Platform & Tools, Security, Enterprise Applications, Communications, Storage, Hardware, Services and the newly added Virtualisation. In total, there were close to 1,000 products and services contenders for awards this year.
Microsoft Malaysia's wins were in the following categories: Application Server Software; Collaboration Platform; Data Mining; Database Management System; Enterprise Content Management; Identity Management; IT Asset Management System; Service Oriented Architecture Services; System Management Software; and, Unified Communications Software Suite.
HP Malaysia's were in: Data Centre & Hosting Services Provider; Enterprise Disk System; Entry-level Server; High-end Enterprise Server; Intrusion Detection/Prevention System; Mid-range Server; Multifunction (All-In-One) Printer/Photocopier Provider; SAN Switches; Storage Management Software; Support & Maintenance Services Provider.

Mark Hobson, Asia Regional Manager, Fairfax Business Media, applauded the efforts made by every award winner and said he was proud to be in their company, particularly during such difficult times in the global economy. "The world has been ploughing through hard times since the recession hit a couple of years ago. Enterprises in this country have not been immune to the effects of the slowdown which has grounded many an industry across the world," he said. "But they have survived and are making their way back to profitability and growth. And they have done so due in great part to the help of the technology companies on our RCA 2010 winners list."
Equally honoured was AvantiKumar, Deputy Editor of Computerworld Malaysia, who said that, in keeping with the theme of this year's RCA programme, 'Three Cheers for the Stand Up Guys': "The award winners clearly won because they had shown Malaysian business and IT executives that they could be counted on to stand up, help and fight for their customers, especially during these, the toughest of economic periods in our history."
