RightScale community publishing opens our platform to the world of smart cloud developers. Anyone can now publish ServerTemplates to the entire RightScale community and share knowledge gained from collective efforts and experience on the cloud
Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) October 14, 2010
RightScale®, Inc., the leader in cloud computing management, today announced that the RightScale Cloud Management Platform now supports community publishing, enabling thousands of RightScale users to publish and share RightScale ServerTemplates and other cloud components. RightScale ServerTemplates are completely transparent, reusable, automated models for configuring cloud servers, providing a fast on-ramp to the cloud. Prior to this release, only RightScale and RightScale Partner Program participants could publish ServerTemplates. Through this new community publishing capability, RightScale users will benefit from a much broader array of pre-configured cloud solutions.
"RightScale community publishing opens our platform to the world of smart cloud developers. Anyone can now publish ServerTemplates to the entire RightScale community and share knowledge gained from collective efforts and experience on the cloud," said Michael Crandell, RightScale CEO. "Because ServerTemplates are completely readable in source form, it's easy for users to share, learn, and tailor them to meet specific requirements. We believe that community publishing on RightScale will result in a compelling collection of portable cloud solutions that will accelerate the adoption of cloud computing."
RightScale introduced ServerTemplates more than three years ago, and today the RightScale Component Library includes hundreds of ServerTemplates spanning nearly 20 categories, from database and application servers, to business intelligence, content management and more. The ServerTemplates have been created by RightScale as well as a host of partners, including software vendors and systems integrators. With community publishing, the number and type of available RightScale ServerTemplates will quickly expand to create a vast library of cloud-ready applications and components that can be rapidly customized and deployed across multiple cloud providers.
RightScale community publishing empowers RightScale users, systems integrators and software vendors to publish their favorite applications as ServerTemplates and even publish complex, multi-server environments as macros for rapid deployment to the cloud. RightScale publishers determine the size and scope of the audience that can see their ServerTemplates - such as a specific team in an enterprise or the entire RightScale community. For example:
- Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) can release pre-configured software stacks that can be rapidly deployed and extended in production environments. ISVs even have the option to license their solutions.
- Systems integrators can release best practices work to demonstrate their expertise and grow their businesses.
- Enterprise IT teams can privately share their ServerTemplates to enable IT self-service within their organizations.
- End users can publicly and privately publish components to collaborate with and leverage the work of colleagues.
"It was extremely easy to publish our ServerTemplate for the Membase Server using RightScale's new community publishing features," said James Phillips, co-founder and senior vice president, Products, from Membase, Inc. "Through RightScale, users can quickly install and start Membase on the cloud for a simple, fast and elastic NoSQL database. We have definitely accelerated the adoption of Membase Server with our RightScale ServerTemplate."
RightScale has created a new Community ServerTemplate Publishing Forum, where users can go with questions, requests, or to see discussions related to ServerTemplate creation and publishing.
To share and be recognized for their cloud computing achievements, RightScale users are encouraged to participate in the RightScale ServerTemplate Showdown, a contest that will recognize the best RightScale ServerTemplates in three categories: innovation, usefulness, and popularity. The three winning authors will each be awarded an Apple iPad at the upcoming RightScale User Conference on November 3, and their ServerTemplates will be featured in the RightScale Component Library.
The RightScale User Conference will be held on November 3 at the Hyatt in Santa Clara, Calif. It will provide opportunities to network and learn from other RightScale users, hear about real-world cloud use cases and meet the RightScale team.
