Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 18, 2010

Online news curation service Newser (http://www.newser.com) announced today the appointment of Elisabeth DeMarse as chief executive officer.

DeMarse joins Newser from creditcards.com, where she served as CEO until its sale. Prior to creditcards.com, DeMarse was CEO of Bankrate and held executive positions at Bloomberg and Hoover's, Inc.

Patrick Spain, executive chairman of Newser, said, "Elisabeth has an unparalleled record of leading online information companies to success. She brings deep expertise in online advertising and traffic building. I saw her ability to strengthen strategies and drive growth when we worked together at Hoover's, and I'm delighted to be working with her again." Spain was chairman and CEO at Hoover's when DeMarse was executive vice president of international operations.

DeMarse said, "Newser is an online news front runner that is revolutionizing the news industry and this drew me to the position. The company has an outstanding product that has created a growing audience which is hugely attractive to advertisers. I'm eager to work with Newser's talented team to find new ways to build on its momentum."

Spain, who holds the largest ownership interest in the company, continues to be fully engaged with Newser and plans to focus on strategy and corporate development.

Michael Wolff, Newser's founder, continues to provide guidance to Newser in the areas of editorial direction and strategy.
