From now on the Independence Bowl will be played on FieldTurf as the City of Shreveport has chosen the world’s safest and highest performing artificial turf system.

In addition to the Independence Bowl, our stadium hosts several college games, numerous high school football games and soccer matches.

From now on the Independence Bowl will be played on FieldTurf as the City of Shreveport has chosen the world’s safest and highest performing artificial turf system.

Since 1998, the game has normally featured a matchup between teams representing the Big 12 Conference and the SEC. Beginning in 2010, the Independence Bowl will hold the third selection from the Mountain West Conference and the seventh selection from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

“We are thrilled that FieldTurf is being installed at Independence Stadium,” said SPAR Director Shelly Ragle. “In addition to the Independence Bowl, our stadium hosts several college games, numerous high school football games and soccer matches." Many bowl games have been and continue to be played on FieldTurf every year such as the Little Caesars Bowl, the St. Petersburg Bowl, the Hawaii Bowl, the Humanitarian Bowl, the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, the Papajohns.com Bowl, the Liberty Bowl, and the GMAC Bowl, to name a few.

More than 100 top NCAA programs currently play and/or practice on FieldTurf including the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines, Texas Longhorns, Mississippi Rebels, West Virginia Mountaineers, Washington Huskies, Oregon Ducks, Wisconsin Badgers, Illinois Fighting Illini, Iowa Hawkeyes, Kansas State Wildcats, Boston College Eagles, Indiana Hoosiers, Minnesota Gophers, Missouri Tigers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Syracuse Orangemen, Cincinnati Bearcats, and the Louisville Cardinals. Twenty-one of the NFL's 32 teams have chosen to play and/or practice on FieldTurf.
