Textbook publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc., and educational media developer Exprima Media jointly present MapQuiz, an iPhone app designed to test your geography expertise. MapQuiz is a timed game, designed for students and geography lovers of all ages to prep for geography bees, high school and college exams, or simply brush up on the latest maps of the world.
"We were pleased to take this first step in combining Wiley’s exceptional content with our signature design sensibilities," says Corey Pressman, president of Exprima Media. “This is an exciting effort because it offers the great content produced by a leading higher-education textbook publisher in a fun and accessible app.” Exprima Media is currently working with several publishers to effectively port their content onto mobile platforms.
Wiley has been publishing must-have content for over 200 years, including a wide variety of online teaching and learning tools that create transformative ways for people to interact with content, address different learning styles, and engage with authors, readers, and partners. Creating MapQuiz is the first time they've partnered with software developers to deliver geography textbook content on a mobile platform. Access to textbook content from a mobile device, delivered in a game format, offers a new, unique way for students to consume information and gain understanding.
Ryan Flahive, Executive Editor of Geography, Geology, and Anthropology at John Wiley & Sons states, "It is exciting to participate in the launch of John Wiley & Sons' first map quiz application for smartphones. This latest step in our continuing legacy of geography education helps us bring higher education content into the wider marketplace of learners."
John Wiley & Sons and Exprima Media collaborated with Night & Day Studios, an iPhone app development house in Portland, Oregon, to create MapQuiz. Night & Day Studios develops arts, education, and entertainment apps. They have created over 25 iPhone applications including the beloved Peekaboo Barn, a top-rated kids’ game featured by Apple, Wired, USA Today, and The New York Times. Currently they are working on other educational apps, including interactive textbooks and children’s storybooks.
