Wibiya has just launched a new web developer platform including an API through which developers can submit and integrate their own applications into the Wibiya application marketplace. This opens up a huge distribution channel for developers who can now reach hundreds of thousands of Web publishers, Blogs, E-commerce sites and more, of all sizes.

Partnering with Wibiya put our app in front of tens of thousands of new users, almost overnight! The integration process couldn't have been easier; we fully plan to continue developing Wibiya specific features for our products to meet the user demand.”

Wibiya is a fast growing platform that specializes in creating an innovative social web toolbar that has been seeing rapid growth since it opened to public in January 2010. Wibiya’s web toolbar has become a household name all over the Internet from top publishers such as the TheStreet, Philly.com, and Playboy.com to known brands such as Jelly Belly and AVG. Currently, Wibiya is launching a new developers’ platform (http://developers.wibiya.com/) that will allow developers to submit their own apps using the Wibiya API. Integrating web applications into the Wibiya toolbar opens up a vast distribution network to the developer:

  •     The Wibiya network reaches more than a 175 million unique users a month
  •     Today there are over 80,000 active websites using the Wibiya web toolbar.
  •     Over 25,000 new websites join the Wibiya network each month.

Christopher Shannon, CEO of whos.amung.us, describes how the Wibiya platform helped him distribute their application: “Partnering with Wibiya put our app in front of tens of thousands of new users, almost overnight! The integration process couldn't have been easier; we fully plan to continue developing Wibiya specific features for our products to meet the user demand.”

Developers are now invited to submit different types of applications from toolbar apps to website plug-ins that are not toolbar related, any type of technology is welcome including API mash-ups. Twitter’s @anywhere web application is a good example of a plug-in app that is already gaining momentum. The submission process is very simple, developers are invited to go through a simple registration process during which they enter some general information on their application and upload a few graphic files for the application marketplace.

Company CEO and co-founder Dror Ceder explains the big opportunity for developers and companies with Wibiya’s open app marketplace: “Wibiya has a very large growing number of websites from many different verticals that are craving new apps tailored to their specific needs. We have been getting many requests for many different types of apps such as location based apps, ecommerce apps, finance apps and more.    Imagine developing an app and then finding out that a top newspaper started using it, or seeing it on thousands of websites without lifting a finger, this is the kind of power we offer developers for free".

Another advantage for developers using the platform is the statistics they can gain access to. Registered developers can view the activity relating to their application, such as how many websites have installed their application during a specific time frame, and a list of the top websites using their app. Access to this kind of information provides developers with in-depth insight into the functionality of their application and its target audience.

Wibiya is also happy to announce that it has partnered with Yahoo!, Bit.ly and AddThis to make it easier for developers to use their different APIs and create great apps that will be added to the Wibiya platform. Specifically Wibiya supports Yahoo! profile, status, contacts and updates via Oauth (alongside other sources like Twitter etc. “We are happy to be a bridge between great services, developers and websites, and more partners will be announced in time” Ceder added.

In addition to all this, in the near future Wibiya will be introducing three more API types.

  •     Mobile API – for the creation of mobile apps specifically for mobile websites
  •     Social Connect API – for the creation of applications that can utilize connected user’s information
  •     Wibiya Boxes API – for the creation on onsite applications

Web developers are welcome to visit the platform and learn more about it.
