The George Brown College branch of SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) alongside The United Nations Association in Canada Toronto regional branch launch of United Change.

The George Brown College branch of SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) alongside The United Nations Association in Canada Toronto regional branch are proud to announce the November 2nd, 2010 launch of United Change, an environmentally minded program focusing on developing a greener community.

This program is designed to educate small-to-medium-sized businesses and local business ambassadors on how environmentally-responsible decisions can easily be made in their everyday business practises. Emphasized in the program will be the value of goal setting and the commitment of accommodating tight budgets while instilling environmentally-sound decision making skills in the participants.

Members of this student run association have recognized growth of green technology in the current economy. While this market is currently experiencing positive growth, there are still only a small number of businesses taking advantage of this trend. This opportunity not only addresses sustainability, but growth as well. Given that George Brown College is located in Toronto, Canada’s corporate capital, the team hopes to capitalize on the fact that more internationally top ranked companies call Toronto home than any other city.

The United Change program will consist of six one-hour workshops with topics that include how to make company operations green, green maintenance, building and remodelling, and how to market green practices to consumers. All of the workshops will give companies a chance to have one-on-one time that can show them how easy it can be to go green, and the benefits that go along with it. The workshops will feature different learning materials that will include guest speakers, interactive activities, case studies, and slideshows to ensure that each participant is able to learn in a way that is suitable to their individual learning styles. Digital handouts will also be provided so that companies have material to refer back to. Each company’s environmental footprint will be periodically monitored after completion of the sessions to ensure full environmental awareness.

Together, these two organizations hope to contribute to a greener world and build a stronger community through enterprise and innovation.
