On September 21, 2010 representatives from the Maryland Society of Accountants (MSA) traveled to Mount Saint Mary’s College in Thurmont, MD for two purposes.
First, MSA members Robert Boehner, CPA, and Christine Giovetti, CPA, joined Executive Director Alverta “Sandy” Steinwedel as guest lecturers in Professor Donald Butts’ Accounting Technology class. The trio updated students on new accounting legislation on the State and Federal levels, and offered real-life experiences and practices in the accounting profession.
Then, Ms. Giovetti, who is one of MSA’s Scholarship Foundation Trustees, joined Mr. Boehner in awarding the organization’s Sidney Weinberg Outstanding Achievement Award to Mr. Christopher Powell, a third-year student majoring in Accounting. The honor is awarded for exemplary academic achievement and commitment to the accounting profession. In addition to the award, Mr. Powell will receive two cash awards of $1,000 each during the fall and spring semesters.
