Tom Carothers and Mark Wabschall to play key roles in future of transmissionless, electric motor system

KLD Energy Technologies Inc. (KLD), developers of clean energy technologies, is beefing up its executive team with the addition of Tom Carothers as chief operating officer and Mark Wabschall as chief financial officer.

“Tom and Mark understand the challenges associated with developing sustainable clean energy technologies for an international market,” said Christian Okonsky, founder and chief executive officer of KLD. “Their proven leadership and global experience will help guide us into an exciting future that includes a strong market for our transmissionless, electric motor system.”

With Tom Carothers, KLD adds 30-plus years of technology industry leadership experience spanning manufacturing, sales, service, engineering and quality control. As a former vice president and general manager for DEC, Dell, Compaq, and other multinational corporations, Carothers offers extensive experience in business management and development in the European and Asian markets.

Prior to joining KLD, Carothers ran the service operations for Vintage IT Services, an Austin-based managed services company. He received his bachelor’s degree in business from East Carolina College and holds an advanced international management diploma from Harvard Business School at INSEAD in France.

As KLD’s chief financial officer, Mark Wabschall brings over three decades of finance and operational management experience to KLD’s management team. He has substantial international experience and significant expertise in mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings and SEC reporting.

Before joining KLD, Wabschall served as the chief financial officer of Deltek, Inc., a public company that is the leading provider of enterprise applications for government contractors. Previously he was the CFO of Webmethods, Inc., a public technology company, and held senior management positions for other technology and energy companies. He was also a partner in an international public accounting firm and is a certified public accountant. Wabschall graduated from the Ohio State University.

“With our recent infusion of $12 million of venture capital over the last year, Tom and Mark are joining us at time when we need to make strategic decisions related to our global sales and commercialization efforts,” said Okonsky.

Carothers joined KLD in October of 2009, while Wabschall came on board earlier this year.
