The September 2010 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition features a study linking artificial sweeteners to increased incidents of premature birth. Researchers from the Centre for Fetal Programming in the Division of Epidemiology at Statens Serum Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark studied nearly 60,000 Danish women and examined their consumption habits of artificially sweetened carbonated diet drinks. The results were concerning; a full 78% of those women who regularly consumed such beverages gave birth prematurely.
