The SMMT recently released figures that showed Ford was Britain’s top selling manufacturer in September 2010. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the boost in sales can in part be attributed to the registration plate change. Ford’s sales totalled 56,361 in September alone, with the manufacturer selling 277,410 units during 2010 to date.
As the car sales industry as a whole recovers, motorists are still feeling the financial pinch. Getting a cheaper motor car insurance policy is one way to lower automotive expenses and vehicle owners should shop around for a quote that suits their budget and their individual cover requirements.
Ford’s sales accounted for 13.8% of September’s total car sales and the manufacturer is also responsible for 14.1% of British annual car sales figures. The manufacturer’s top selling vehicle for both September and the entire year so far was the Ford Fiesta. The Fiesta’s sales alone accounted for 5.7% of the market in September and 5.7% for 2010 to date.
The Fiesta is, however, not the only Ford making its mark on the industry; the Transit and Fiesta Van are not to be forgotten. The Transit was responsible for 38.7% of sales in the one tonne segment of the market and 38.7% of the two tonne category for September. The Ford Fiesta also led its segment of the market with 45.1% of September’s sales, as well as an impressive 56.8% of the annual sales.
As the automotive sales sector slowly recovers, motorists who do purchase new vehicles should aim to do so before the increase in VAT scheduled for next January. It is important to get a motor car insurance policy that provides appropriate insurance cover, and by shopping around car owners will be able to select a policy that best suits their needs and budget.
