Plug-and-play solution offloads broadcast paging traffic in Hosted VoIP-based communication systems; integrates with overhead paging systems.

October 19, 2010 - Ottawa, Ontario, Canada - PIKA Technologies, a designer and manufacturer of plug-in media-processing hardware and software, telephony appliances and applications, announced today the first in its new line of solutions, developed specifically for service providers offering hosted IP-based communications services such as those provided by the BroadSoft® BroadWorks® platform. The PIKA WARP Pager solution solves the WAN bandwidth and provisioning cost issue experienced previously when implementing paging in a hosted environment and where the application requires integrated paging with existing overhead paging systems.

Based on the award-winning PIKA WARP Telephony Appliance, the WARP Pager solution directs broadcast pages initiated within a hosted PBX environment through the WARP Pager unit and onto the local area network (LAN) to IP handsets. This eliminates the need to purchase additional bandwidth and expensive edge devices to support group or zone paging to multiple phones.

David Blau, founding Partner of Consolidated Technologies Inc. (CTI), said: “The WARP Pager allows CTI to deliver single and multiple-zone paging over the enterprise LAN to IP phones. It eliminates the heavy bandwidth concerns typically associated with paging in a cloud-based environment. The WARP Pager provides a valuable enhancement to the rich functionality that we currently provide with our Clearpath Hosted PBX offering and allows us to re-visit lost opportunities where we couldn’t provide a viable paging solution. Mission #1 for CTI is to find solid solutions for our customers’ business needs. This offering falls right into our sweet spot."

Roy Chirdo, Chief Operating Officer at Public Interest Network Services Inc. (PINS) in Manhattan, NY, said: “The WARP Pager solution will make PINS a more viable CLEC by providing our new and existing customers with more state-of-the-art products and it will help us to evangelize hosted IP telephony in business environments. Integrating a paging solution at the desktop for customers that have an existing over-head paging system is a real plus. There is no competitive product like WARP Pager available – it’s an innovative, state-of-the-art, early-entry product. It was a real joy working with the PIKA Team during our Proof of Concept trial, and interoperability testing with our Class V softswitch.”

David Clarke, Product Manager at PIKA Technologies, added: “The WARP Pager solution is designed to meet our customers’ need for a paging application that has traditionally been too difficult and costly to offer within the hosted VoIP-based communications model. WARP Pager is the first in what we intend to be a line of innovative, out-of-the-box solutions to tie into existing Hosted PBX services which will make the hosted offerings more competitive with on-premise PBX products.”

The WARP Pager is easily installed at new or existing hosted IP-PBX locations in minutes. The first release enables simultaneous paging of up to 30 IP handsets by simply dialling an extension or by pressing a pre-programmed softkey. Pages can be made from any location including from an offsite location. Using the line-out port the WARP Pager can also be integrated to an existing overhead paging system.

The PIKA WARP Pager solution is now available directly from PIKA Technologies. It is currently certified by PIKA for compatibility with BroadSoft® BroadWorks® soft switch (BroadSoft IOT pending) and is easily adaptable to other Hosted PBX systems. It supports Polycom® and Cisco® IP Phones and may interoperate with Aastra® and Snom® IP handsets and others with minor configuration changes.
