Learning By Handz/Math By Hand launched a Facebook business page and released a new, Sacramento-based website offering an innovative math system that combines aspects of Waldorf Education with state and national mathematics standards tie-ins for teaching and learning math, grades 1-4.
A weekly newsletter with helpful ideas for homeschooling families will be sent to everyone who signs up for it on the Facebook page.
Math By Hand is built on the premise that “learning by doing” is by far one of the most effective strategies for teaching young children. As a Chinese proverb says, “Tell me and I’ll forget, show me and I’ll remember, involve me and I will understand.”
Homeschooling is an ever-more popular option since education budgets are continually being cut nationwide, a trend that is eliminating the arts from the school day. Waldorf Education is a time-tested alternative that integrates academics with arts, crafts, movement, and cultural resources.
Hands-on materials, homeschooling, and Waldorf Education could very well be a dynamic recipe for math success in the early grades.
