In addition to being a superb environmental lawyer… Jim Periconi has been a dedicated and highly respected INBLF member... I was certainly delighted that Jim was selected by the INBLF's New York Chapter to be its next Chapter President.

Periconi, LLC founder and principal, James Periconi, a well-known environmental law practitioner in New York City, was named a Superlawyer for the Metro New York area, as announced in the fall 2010 issue of Superlawyers.

“Superlawyers has increasingly realized in the last few years that top practitioners are not limited to large or even medium sized law firms.

“We’re pleased that this peer-reviewed, well-regarded publication in the field now recognizes that even small firms can consistently produce first-quality work for top corporations that in past years would only look to large firms for representation in important matters,” continued Mr. Periconi. His firm numbers among its clients in significant enforcement cases several major public corporations. Only 35 environmental lawyers in metropolitan area New York have been named Superlawyers.

“We’re small, but we have collectively nearly 100 years of environmental law and litigation experience in a wide variety of matters, from litigation in the federal and state courts, to major deals, the defense of significant and sensitive enforcement matters, and large and small commercial property transactions.” Besides its full-time attorneys, the firm calls on two experienced senior counsel for highly specialized matters when they are needed.

Periconi is a former Chair (2003-2004) of the 1,300 member Environmental Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. Among other activities for which Periconi was responsible, the Section featured at its Annual Meeting a keynote address by world-famous economist Jeffrey Sachs, the Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University.

Prior to entering private practice in 1989 as counsel to the prestigious boutique environmental law firm, Berle, Kass & Case, Periconi was the first Chief of Hazardous Waste Enforcement in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, in charge of the largest State Superfund program in the country, one of the few State Superfund programs that actually predated the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund program.

In the other development that occurred nearly at the same time, Periconi was picked by his peers in the New York Chapter of the International Network of Boutique Law Firms to head the chapter’s efforts and representation in this world-wide organization for the next three years. Each American law firm’s representative must, at a minimum, be Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent rated. A significant number of its members have been named Superlawyers or have been Chambers-rated or both. There are 43 chapters in the United States alone.

“I’m honored that my colleagues in the New York Chapter chose to ask me to lead them in an organization that very early on recognized that the globalization of business and trade required the services of a network of law firms around the world to service their legal business in a flexible, cost-effective manner not always possible with behemoth global law firms.”

Steven Spielvogel, the founder of the organization in 2004, the first New York Chapter president, and currently the President of INBLF, in joining in on the announcement about Jim stated: "In addition to being a superb environmental lawyer and former Chair of the New York State Bar Association's Environmental Law Section, Jim Periconi has been a dedicated and highly respected INBLF member, since he joined the INBLF's New York Chapter in 2004.  I was certainly delighted that Jim was selected by the INBLF's New York Chapter to be its next Chapter President, a well-deserved honor."
