Merit Software has just launched a new web-based edition of Grammar Fitness - a widely used tool that improves students' English grammar skills. Earlier versions of Grammar Fitness have helped English language learners, upper elementary, middle and high school pupils, and adult and continuing education students for more than a decade.
Grammar Fitness helps student master difficult points in English grammar. Unlike most educational supplements, Grammar Fitness provides context-sensitive help based on students’ own individual curricula needs.
With Grammar Fitness, students learn by doing. After an assessment, students advance through the program at their own pace. They receive personal help and feedback while they work. The program presents the rule that applies to each specific grammar activity. Teachers, tutors and students are able to track time-on-task and assess improvement through an easy-to-use online management system.
Concepts covered include subject-verb agreement, contractions, possessives, run on sentences, fragments, irregular noun plurals, dangling modifiers, and faulty parallelism. The complete program covers 250 grammar concepts.
To help users find the concepts they need, separate pages have been created on the Merit Software web site for five levels of difficulty:
1. Basic Review, High Beginning English Language Learners
2. Basic Review, Low Intermediate English Language Learners
3. Skill levels 4 - 5, Intermediate English Language Learners
4. Skill levels 6 – 8, Advanced English Language Learners
5. Skill levels 8 – 10, College and TOEFL Prep
The online version of the Grammar Fitness works with the Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari browsers. Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems are supported. One full year's access to each level costs $29(US). Attractive classroom and school district licenses are available. Users may evaluate the demo version of the program online; no login is required.
Other Merit Software online products for writing and grammar skills include Paragraph Punch, Essay Punch, Business Letter Punch and Book Punch.
Editorial evaluation accounts available on request.
