TeachAde.com, an award-winning online community and resource center for educators, and the National Education Association’s Member Benefits Corporation (NEA MB) are proud to announce their partnership with Adopt-A-Classroom, an organization dedicated to enabling direct-to-classroom donations. These like-minded organizations have combined forces to offer one of the easiest and most effective ways for communities to support their educators and students.
TeachAde, created to address the critical lack of resources for educators, is the number one web site for K-12 educators around the world, with over 58,000 downloadable resources available free of charge. NEA members, representing 3.2 million educators, utilize TeachAde as a social networking site where they enjoy a place to connect, share and collaborate online.
Adopt-A-Classroom provides an easy and effective way for communities to make donations directly to classroom teachers. The method is simple: teachers register online and use provided outreach tools to spread the word. Community members can then donate directly to an individual classroom, fulfilling each teacher’s custom needs.
“Educators spent more than $1.3 billion out-of-pocket on school supplies during the last school year,” said Gary Phoebus, president and CEO of NEA MB. “By forming this partnership, we are helping to ensure educators receive the financial support they so desperately need.”
According to a recent survey published by the National School Supply and Equipment Association (NSSEA), educators reported spending an average of $936 on supplies and resource materials for their classrooms during the 2009-2010 school year.
“Lack of funding and support for our education system isn’t going to go away anytime soon,” said Michael Pearce, founder and CEO of TeachAde. “We need to give teachers additional tools to help make life better for them. TeachAde, NEA Member Benefits and Adopt-A-Classroom are helping provide that.”
TeachAde is the first interactive website for educators providing them with the ability to create, search and share resources to enhance their teaching and professional development as well as network with other teachers. TeachAde is available free of charge and members consist of K-12 teachers from around the U.S. and the world, college professors throughout the U.S., and representatives of commercial and non-profit enterprises that serve the teaching community.
