Program Recognizes Innovation, Accomplishments in Wireless

Andrew Seybold, Inc. today announced the opening of nominations for the annual Andrew Seybold Choice Awards, which recognize the accomplishments of companies in developing leading-edge technologies, devices, services and applications that impact the acceptance and use of wireless communications by business, consumer and Internet users.

The awards will be presented on January 6 at the 21st Annual Wireless Dinner. The event is being held for the first time in conjunction with CES 2011 in Las Vegas. Anyone wishing to submit a nomination is encouraged to visit to access the entry rules and nomination form. Nominations close December 10, 2010.

“While its initial successes were found in the business world, wireless has a natural and burgeoning presence among consumers,” Seybold noted. “This is evidenced not only by the ubiquity of devices such as smartphones, but also by the increasing collaboration between device manufacturers, service providers, application developers and other innovators inside and outside the wireless community, who together are expanding the market and its opportunities with new capabilities and solutions virtually on a daily basis.

“Wireless is no longer confined to devices and applications designed only for wireless services. It now includes devices and services that augment their base capabilities by being wirelessly enabled. Thus, we expect many Choice Award entries to come from consumer companies as well as those in the traditional wireless industry and we anticipate many new and innovative entries from both.”

Award categories include Most Innovative Mobile Technology; Most Innovative Mobile Device; Most Innovative Mobile Service; and Most innovative Mobile Application. Nominees must have released their offerings commercially during 2010, and each entry will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  •     Solves a long-standing problem or represents an innovative approach
  •     Efficient use of resources
  •     Ease of use
  •     Potential to attract more customers to wireless voice and/or data service
  •     Functionality, features and price.

When judging the entries for the Choice Awards, the panel looks at all aspects of the product or service: Does it solve a problem? It is easy to use and intuitive? Does it provide value not only for the company but for the customer, and does it augment and add value by being wirelessly connected?

Seybold established the Choice Awards in 2002 and they are regarded by many as the “Oscars” of the wireless industry. Information about finalists and category winners will be included in news releases and promotional materials, including the Andrew Seybold, Inc. website. Finalists will be provided with the Andrew Seybold Choice Award icon to use on their own websites and marketing collateral and will receive three invitations to the Dinner.
