In the course of thirty-seven years, author Kay Enns has taught every grade level and has benefited greatly from it. She treasures the children she has taught, and believes that these young people have enriched her life in unimaginable ways. In her new book, she makes a lasting impact on all educators through a compilation of teaching, parenting, and child-care giving experiences and advice, titled Teachers Take Heart.
The first section of this book contains a recollection of her years in the classroom of various types. It contains harrowing, humorous, and heartwarming encounters that she has experienced in a professional capacity, reflecting her growth as a teacher and as a person. The second section provides her own analysis of the changing demands of today’s children, the largely antiquated education system still in use in most schools, and several alternate suggestions for a more effective curriculum. Concluding this book are specific ideas, advice, and suggestions on rewards systems and better classroom, behavior, task, and time management.
“Our influence and presence in their lives often has a lifelong effect on them, and it is the lucky teacher who is remembered fondly, years later, as a great teacher. I hope that in reading this book, you will consider taking my suggestions to heart and learn how to be that kind of teacher. It is worth it,” the author says.
