Atlanta-based Business Computer Applications, Inc. (BCA) has been selected as a prime contractor for a major section of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Information Management Services (CIMS) contract that has a total value of $5 billion to all awardees over the next 10 years.

The CDC selected BCA as one of the awardees for the Information Management Services area, which is worth a total of $3 billion over 10 years, and is one of three functional areas within the CIMS contract. The CIMS contract covers the CDC’s worldwide information technology services supporting its international public health mission. The other two areas are IT Infrastructure Services and Management Consulting. Contracts were awarded in three business categories within each of the service areas: full and open; small business set-aside; and small disadvantaged business (8(a)).

BCA was the only “small business” company to be awarded prime contractor positions in the Information Management Services “full and open” business category and the only Atlanta-based firm to win two of the three business categories in that service area, by also being awarded a “small business” contract. Of the 71 companies bidding, BCA was only one of four selected by the CDC in the small business category and one of 11 in the full and open category of the Information Management area. BCA, which was one of only 30 companies awarded contracts overall, was competing with corporate giants including IBM, Unisys, Dell Perot Systems, Lockheed Martin, Price Waterhouse, SRA International, and SAIC among others.

“This award is formal recognition of excellence as determined by the CDC’s stringent process of selection and acknowledgment of the quality of the BCA employee and contractual team’s knowledge of the CDC and its mission gained over the past 14 years serving the agency,” said Albert Woodard, BCA’s chief executive officer. “This important milestone is a reminder of how fortunate we are at BCA to work in a business that benefits others by making their lives better by preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting healthy lifestyles. It is that involvement that is a prime motivator of BCA’s employees.”

The contract’s duration for up to 10 years, is an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract that enables BCA to vie for tasks in the Information Management services area. Tasks in this area include the planning, design, development, maintenance, engineering and integration of information systems; collection, analysis and management of data, information, and knowledge; health IT, public health informatics; information security; and project and program management support.
