The school’s curriculum focuses on the legacy of founder Dr. Jerry Falwell Sr. – developing young champions for Christ.

Music is a large part of the extracurricular entertainment on the Liberty University campus. The school hosts such big names as Switchfoot, Toby Mac, The Fray, Lecrae, Newboys, and Casting Crowns. In addition, student artists are welcome and encouraged to perform on campus. The school hosts a ‘Campus Artist Series’ as well as ‘Open Mic’ nights (2-3 per month) regularly, with the most popular student-centered event being the Coffeehouse. “We provide a variety of extracurricular options for our student body. This allows them to supplement their classroom experience with diverse cultural experiences and social interaction that prepares our students to become contributing members of society,” explains Director of Student Activities, Chris Misiano.

Liberty University has taken advantage of Virginia’s landscape in order to create an extensive outdoor recreation program and engage the student body population. The school hosts such activities as whitewater rafting, hiking, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing. In addition, the Christian school hosts the Liberty Mountain Trail series; it is a trail race series featuring a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and five-mile race on the school’s mountain property. The University also boasts the only year-round Snowflex skiing facility, 60 miles of hiking and biking trails, an 18 hole Frisbee golf course, turf paintball fields, 120 acre lake with a white sand beach, two indoor soccer fields, indoor ice rink, indoor and outdoor tracks, and a 3-D archery range. Liberty boasts Division I athletic programs, 25 club sports programs, and high number of student organizations.

“In order to have a well-rounded college experience, students enjoy a quality co-curricular program that provides relational interaction, cultural awareness, and recreational opportunities in addition to their academic experience,” explains Misiano. “The world is an exciting place, rich with opportunities and diverse interests. We want our students to be able to sample as much as they can during their time here in order to support their growth as leading members of society.”
