CloudOne today announced that CloudOne’s offerings of IBM Rational Software as a Service through the Cloud are available on Spectrum System’s GSA Schedule.

CloudOne, the first to offer IBM Rational Jazz products in the Cloud through Software as a Service, and Fairfax, Virginia based Spectrum Systems, Inc., an IBM Business Partner specializing in Application Lifecycle Management and Information Assurance solutions that assist the public and private sectors in the development, optimization and protection of their applications, today announced that CloudOne’s offerings of IBM Rational Software as a Service through the Cloud are available on Spectrum System’s GSA Schedule.

“This is truly an outstanding event,” said John P. McDonald, Chief Executive Officer of CloudOne. “By putting IBM Rational SaaS on the cloud in the GSA Schedule, we’re making it easier for small teams to get the tools they need, instantly through a simple, always-on, everywhere you want image.“

"Through Spectrum's long-standing partnership with IBM / Rational, we are well aware of the value that IBM Rational development tools bring to the application development process," said Ronald Segal, president, Spectrum Systems. "We are extremely pleased to be able to offer IBM Rational tools to our government customers via CloudOne's SaaS model. Our customers will benefit from a greater array of options and flexibility in meeting their application development teams' needs."

Cloud Computing is a model whereby hardware server capacity is provided to users, computers and devices over the Internet. Much like public utilities provide electricity, phone service or water, Cloud Computing provides servers, applications and databases over the “pipe” of the internet. Cloud shifts the burden of maintenance and operation of computer servers to a utility-like model so organizations can focus on what makes them unique and great.

Software as a Service, sometimes shortened to “SaaS”, is a method of software deployment where a provider offers licenses to an application or tool for use on-demand, either as a timed subscription or “pay-as-you-go”. With the CloudOne / Spectrum GSA offering, customers can scale both hardware and software up and down as they need, and their costs scale with it. It’s the best of both worlds.
