Chicago, IL (Vocus) October 27, 2010
Clarity PSO, A Division of Clarity Group, Inc., a national and leading Patient Safety Organization, held a meeting of its Healthcare Advisory Council to discuss current issues related to Patient Safety. The Healthcare Advisory Council is comprised of healthcare specialists from around the country. Their role is to provide expert opinions on issues that emerge from the healthcare clients of Clarity PSO and to provide insight into areas of focus that the PSO needs to emphasize on behalf of its clients.
“While the concept of Patient Safety Organizations, which are a critical part of the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005 (“Patient Safety Act”), is new to many healthcare providers, they offer a valuable service for healthcare organizations of all types in the areas of data analysis and best practice recommendations that can be immediately applied for the benefit of patient care. Bringing together healthcare experts to discuss the data analyzed and to give their insight on potential interventions and resources is a powerful tool that Clarity PSO offers its clients,” stated Lee Hillborne, MD, MPH Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
This most recent meeting of the Healthcare Advisory Council addressed areas such as helping hospitals to respond to healthcare reform by providing them with tools to proactively identify, learn from, and manage hospital readmissions and to support evidence based care in client organizations. The council reviewed the initial work completed with clients this year related to sedation. The PSO sedation report provided clients with actionable information that could be used at the PSO clients’ organizations to work with those involved in the care of sedation patients to improve the infrastructure available to provide care to sedation patients. The HAC provided PSO staff with clear direction for 2011 patient safety activities needed by clients. “This group of clinical experts represents medicine, surgery, pathology, obstetrics, pharmacy, infectious disease, emergency medicine, nursing, and risk/quality/safety management. Together they provide a rich resource to our Clarity PSO clients to help them achieve high quality and safe healthcare delivery,” stated Ellen Flynn, RN, MBA, JD, Executive Director of Clarity PSO.
