The Heart Group, P.A., has recently joined the medical team at Summit Medical Group. The new relationship expands cardiology services, expertise and hospital affiliations for both groups.

Summit Medical Group Chief of Cardiology Robert D. Slama, M.D., F.A.C.C., says, “Our quickly growing practice has prompted the need for more physicians. Fred M. Aueron, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I., has been Clinical Instructor of Medicine and Cardiology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Director of the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Invasive Cardiovascular Laboratory. He also has been a member of the medical staff at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Overlook Hospital, and Bayonne Medical Center. A fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, he is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialty certification in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. Dr. Aueron is former New Jersey Governor of the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions. His expertise includes diagnostic and interventional cardiology, preventive cardiology, lipid disorders, and cardiovascular diagnostic dilemmas.

Robert H. Charney, M.D., F.A.C.C., completed his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at The Mount Sinai Medical Center, where renowned cardiologist, Valentin Fuster, M.D., Ph.D., mentored him. During his last year of fellowship training, he was designated a Bristol-Myers Squibb Fellow. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialty certification in cardiovascular disease, and he is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Charney’s expertise includes coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, preventive cardiology, and noninvasive cardiology.

Kenneth B. Gantz, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I., is a graduate of Cornell University Medical College and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center, where he remained for his fellowship in cardiovascular disease. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialty certification in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. Dr. Gantz’s expertise includes lipid disorders, preventive cardiology, and interventional approaches to coronary artery disease. He has been listed in New Jersey magazine’s “Top Docs.”

Roy B. Sauberman, M.D., F.A.C.C., is Associate Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship program at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Dr. Sauberman earned his M.D. at Yale University School of Medicine. After completing his internship and residency in internal medicine at New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center, he completed fellowships in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard University Medical School, respectively. Dr. Sauberman’s expertise includes noninvasive and invasive electrophysiology testing, radiofrequency ablation therapy, anti-arrhythmic pharmaceutical therapy, and pacemaker and defibrillator implantation as well as cardiac resynchronization therapy for congestive heart failure. He was recently listed in NJ Monthly’s 2010 “Top Doctors.” Dr. Sauberman is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialty certifications in cardiovascular disease and cardiac electrophysiology.

Susan L. Simandl, MD, FACC, is the Medical Director of the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Echocardiography Laboratory. She has been Director of Echocardiography and the Congestive Heart Failure Program at the State University of New York in Stony Brook. Dr. Simandl earned her MD at the University of Medicine and Dentistry-Rutgers Medical School. After graduating, she completed her residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University and the State University of New York. She also completed her fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the State University of New York. Dr. Simandl is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is board certified in nuclear cardiology and Testamur of the American Board of Echocardiography.
