Temecula, CA (Vocus) October 28, 2010
The Tazewell County, Va., Emergency Communications/9-1-1 Center upgraded its emergency call center to the next generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) call processing solution, Sentinel® Patriot®, and management information system (MIS) solution, Aurora®, from emergency communications leader PlantCML®, an EADS North America company, through channel partner Wireless Communications.
“When the decision was made to relocate our facility to one that would be capable of meeting our current and future needs, we also decided to upgrade our existing emergency call processing system so it could grow with us as the industry progresses into the next generation of 9-1-1,” said Derrick S. Ruble, director of Emergency Communications and 9-1-1, Tazewell County 9-1-1. “PlantCML, along with Wireless Communications, was able to expedite the installation of our system and the five call taking positions. This will allow our call takers to better serve the community and our first responders immediately.”
Situated in the southwestern part of Virginia, Tazewell County is approximately 531 square miles in size with a population of nearly 45,000 residents. A PlantCML customer since 2004, the Tazewell County emergency call center receives more than 929,000 emergency calls a year and dispatches calls to the area’s 27 fire, law enforcement and rescue services.
The Sentinel Patriot solution is a robust, state of the art software solution developed to accommodate the physical and functional specifications of today’s emergency call centers and be flexible enough to adapt to tomorrows. It is based on a distributed Internet Protocol (IP) architecture, featuring a fully integrated PBX with redundant servers and no single point of failure. It also offers a full suite of computer telephony features that include automatic call distribution (ACD), automatic number identification (ANI) and automatic location identification (ALI) capabilities.
Integrating the Sentinel Patriot solution with the Aurora MIS will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Tazewell County’s 9-1-1 services by enhancing management’s ability to gather, organize, datamine and report on call center metrics. It includes advanced reporting options that can be customized to fit specific needs and ad hoc reporting requirements. The Aurora solution plays an important role by improving efficiencies in staffing, standard operating procedures and information management.
