Phil Bivens, owner of Universal Auto Group, Inc., has been awarded one of the first new FIAT dealerships in the Pacific Northwest by Italian car manufacturer FIAT S.p.A. and its North American partner, Chrysler, LLC. The resurgent automaker, which also owns Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lancia and Maserati, recently began its efforts to create a nationwide dealer network in 119 markets that expect to begin accepting orders for the FIAT 500 this December.

“We are honored and extremely excited to have been chosen by FIAT to represent this iconic brand,” said Phil Bivens. “The original FIAT 500 was best known for its practicality, but now with modern technology and engineering it has evolved into a stylish, trend-setting vehicle inside and out. Customers will be drawn to its sporty visual appeal, fashionable customization capabilities and, of course, practicality - in terms of fuel economy and price.”

FIAT will officially “unveil” the FIAT 500 at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2010, including all specifics related to production, model mix, pricing, gas mileage, safety ratings and warranty coverage. It is anticipated that there will be five versions of the car being produced initially: The FIAT 500 – March 2011; 500 Cabrio – mid-2011; the sporty 500 Abarth – end of 2011; an electric version in 2012; and a high-roof, four-door model for 2013.

Bivens and FIAT are currently evaluating a number of potential locations in Pierce County and South King County that will serve a large segment of the greater Puget Sound region and beyond. Steps are also underway to properly staff and train the dealership’s FIAT Advocates to be prepared when the brand is officially launched.

“FIAT expects to sell 50,000 cars in the United States in the first year,” added Bivens. “We expect our FIAT Advocates to be the most knowledgeable and prepared staff in the country. This car is truly in a league of its own and I can’t wait to see the first FIAT 500 drive off the showroom floor.”

Bivens will determine a name for the dealership once a location has been finalized.
