Arverne By The Sea welcomes the Grand Opening of the new Stop & Shop. New York State Senate President Malcolm Smith, Assembly Women Audrey Pheffer and Michelle Titus, Councilman James Sanders Jr., Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, and Stop and Shop’s Sr. VP James Sylvia and Store Manager Vito Orlando attended the ribbon cutting ceremony. The 55,000 square foot supermarket is located in Arverne By The Sea on Rockaway Beach Boulevard between Beach 73rd and Beach 69th Streets. The $23 million facility created about 100 construction jobs and was completed in just over 16 months. The new Stop & Shop produced approximately 200 jobs for full and part time employees.
The Stop & Shop is part of the Arverne By The Sea master-planned community of residential homes, commercial and retail space. Also under construction and located just across the street from Stop & Shop is the 36,000 square foot YMCA community center with an Aquatic Center, and a 22,000 square foot retail transit plaza centered around the newly refurbished Arverne By The Sea subway station.
