Growing Interest Reflected in Record Attendance at Third Annual SDL DITA Fest and Trisoft User Group Conference

DITA and the New Future of Customer Experience

SDL, (LSE:SDL) the leading provider of Global Information Management solutions, announced today that its third annual DITA Fest technology conference, "DITA and the New Future of Customer Experience" had record attendance. More than seventy companies in high tech, software, life sciences, and the consumer electronics industry were in attendance at the event in Santa Clara, with representatives throughout the United States and as far away as Taiwan and Singapore. The increase of more than 50% in attendance levels since last year reflects the accelerating interest in, and broad adoption of structured authoring, DITA - the XML standard for technical writing and Component Content Management (CCM).

According to Howard Schwartz, Ph.D. and Vice President of Content Technologies for SDL, the adoption of structured content methodologies has been accelerating among technical writers and information developers. "The debate is over. Structured content has proven itself a foundation for enabling global companies to more easily share and reuse information, drive down the cost of content development and localization, and create greater business agility. Now companies are looking to expand on that foundation and provide a platform for enriching the customer experience," said Schwartz. "This is why we are seeing so many global companies adopting structured authoring methodologies with DITA and thinking about how they can build out further on the platform."

At the third annual DITA Fest conference, held this year on October 13 in Santa Clara, California, attendees learned about the key drivers to DITA, market trends and strategies for managing the global content lifecycle. Thought leaders from well known high tech companies joined Ann Rockley from The Rockley Group to share their experiences with DITA and their vision for the role it can play in driving customer experience. All participants were treated to technology demonstrations of next generation SDL applications that can dynamically and interactively deliver technical documentation to customers. In addition, attendees were shown authoring and review technologies that are making the writing and review of structured information easier and ubiquitous in the enterprise. The event also featured a lively and interactive panel discussion and opportunities to network and share best practices with like-minded organizations and some of the Bay Area's largest technology companies.
