Raquy and the Cavemen's music is a remarkable demonstration of what Page and Plant have always wanted to do but have never succeeded at.
Los Angeles, CA (Vocus) November 2, 2010
Virtuoso World music duo Raquy and the Cavemen have announced the release of their 6th album, Release the Green Lover, on November 2nd. The newest album takes their signature sound to a new level with fascinating rhythms and eloquent melodies and arrangements. The album is being distributed by BFM Digital, a leading digital music aggregator and distributor of independent music.
Raquy and the Cavemen are a duo of virtuoso drummers/multi-instrumentalists who bring hard rock energy to the mystical rhythms of the Middle East. Together they have created a fresh new sound that is an explosive dose of Middle-Eastern-Rock-Fusion. Raquy Danziger and Liron Peled, a former couple, started the band when they were married.
Raquy is a world-renowned virtuoso on the dumbek (Middle-Eastern hand drum), expressing her love of Middle Eastern music with the inspiration she absorbed in her travels. Liron has had a rich background as an incredible, world-touring hard rock drummer and has entranced his audiences with his Mongolian Throat singing that adds a synth bass like sound to Raquy and the Caveman.
On Release the Green Lover, Raquy and Liron utilize new drumming techniques from Turkey, new instruments, including a 12-string kamanche, 11-string guitar, and Liron’s unique Mongolian singing style. With these techniques, they have taken their style to a new place, creating some pieces that are trance-like, as well as including a skit that pays an homage to traditional Indian music, a great source of inspiration for the duo.
"We feel this album is the pinnacle of our musical career. We work so hard perfecting our skills, songs and instruments so that our fans would get even more blown away next time they hear our music - this album reflects all this hard work with all the amazing inspiration we've had writing, recording and performing these songs," says Liron Peled.
Raquy and the Cavemen have performed at Central Park SummerStage, LollaPalooza and PASIC, and have collaborated with some of the biggest names in Middle-Eastern music, including Omar Faruk Tekbilek and Saiid El-Artist. Their music has received airplay reaching the top 20 in the CMJ Radio Airplay chart and has been licensed in several movie soundtracks and dance performances worldwide.
David Dacks of Exclaim Magazine writes “Raquy and the Cavemen's music is a remarkable demonstration of what Page and Plant have always wanted to do but have never succeeded at.” Christopher Hart of MSN Music Live wrote that the band “leaves their audiences in awe.”
Dan Aquilante of the New York Post says “She (Raquy) and her band, The Cavemen, have taken traditional Eastern songs from that corner of the world and melded them into something else with electronic instrumentation – this odd but interesting disc of world music is terrific!”
