Voters From Over 200 countries Worldwide Participate In 2010 Event

These awards have given frequent travelers throughout the world a voice about what they value in a loyalty program

The winners of the 2010 Frequent Traveler Awards were announced yesterday evening during a ceremony at the Sheraton North Houston at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, TX. Over 125 airline, hotel, credit card and loyalty industry representatives attended the ceremony, along with members of the traveling public.

Over a million people from more than 200 countries worldwide participated, casting online ballots, choosing their favorite programs and campaigns for 2009. Voters cast ballots for their favorite programs in six categories across one of three global regions: The Americas, Europe and Africa, and the Middle East and Asia/Oceania.

In the Americas region, Air Canada Aeroplan won the airline Program of the Year and Marriott Rewards won Program of the Year among the hotel programs.

In the Europe and Africa region, Lufthansa’s Miles & More won airline Program of the Year, while Marriott Rewards won Program of the Year among the hotel programs.

In the Middle East and Asia/Oceania region, Kingfisher Airlines King Club from India won airline Program of the Year, while Taj Hotels InnerCircle won Program of the Year among the hotel programs.

Marriott Rewards took top honors winning the most Frequent Traveler Awards with eleven overall, while Lufthansa took home the most for an airline program, with five.

"These awards have given frequent travelers throughout the world a voice about what they value in a loyalty program”, commented Tommy Danielsen, President of the Frequent Traveler Education Foundation.

In addition to the regional awards, The Frequent Traveler Education Foundation also presented the Loyalty Leadership Award to Hyatt Gold Passport for their introduction of Confirmed Suite Upgrades, delivering the benefits members want most when they travel, and also to SAS EuroBonus for eliminating fuel surcharges on award redemptions.

“We honor these two loyalty programs for their innovation, forward thinking and added benefits to the customer” said Danielsen. The Loyalty Leadership Awards are determined by editorial decision rather than by ballot. These awards honor the programs or individuals that have influenced or have had a significant impact on the loyalty industry.

The Frequent Traveler Awards represent excellence in frequent travel programs worldwide, rating the best frequent flyer and frequent guest programs. Winners are determined based on the overall merits of each program as ranked by the voter.

This year, The Frequent Traveler Awards partnered with American Express Membership Rewards, American Express Loyalty Edge, Loylogic, Seatguru, FlyerTalk.com, and Sheraton North Houston at George Bush Intercontinental Airport to present the event for its inaugural year.
