Dr. Lawlis will manage the development, integration and administration of Origins’ advanced psychological and neurological programs for the treatment of chemically dependent and dual diagnosed patients.
“We are committed to delivering cutting-edge brain treatment sciences to our patients. Origins’ treatment philosophy involves leveraging the finest evidence-based interventions that psychology and addiction medicine have to offer, while grounding our patients in the timeless twelve-step paradigm. Dr. Lawlis is the authority on brain-body healing, especially with respect to co-existing disorders that we often see in our patients like attention deficit, bi-polar and post-traumatic stress,” said Ben Levenson, Chief Executive Officer. “Dr. Lawlis and his staff bring an array of enhanced clinical capabilities and expert evaluation tools to help us more deeply understand patient needs and better individualize their treatment,” said Levenson.
“Origins’ treatment milieu is ideal for Dr. Lawlis’ neuroplasticity work because our ninety-day program gives him and his team the time they need to effectively deliver their unique brain re-sequencing treatment. We are looking forward to integrating the culmination of his research, the Compass Program, and availing our clients of this advanced specialty care,” said Rich Whitman, President and Executive Director. “Origins is truly taking substance abuse treatment to the next level. If we really believe that addiction is a brain disease, then we had better begin treating the brain – and that is exactly what we are doing here at Origins.”
Dr. Lawlis has focused on clinical and research methods of the mind-body relationship since 1968 when he received his Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in medical psychology and rehabilitation. He has written and co-authored over 100 published articles as well as New York Times bestselling books. He was awarded the Diplomate by the American Board of Professional Psychology in both Counseling Psychology and Clinical Psychology. Later Dr. Lawlis worked with the Texas Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission when he helped write an educational grant for Texas Tech University. He has since committed himself to treatment innovation through his research and teaching on this major national threat.
“I am honored and excited to be appointed to this important role at Origins. I have been looking for a residential substance abuse program that has proportioned the medical, clinical and spiritual care components in a way which I could effectively introduce the dimension of mind-body science have worked my entire career developing – and I found that at Origins,” said Lawlis. “We are committed to taking the fight to the correct battleground – and the brain is the beginning center-stage.
