New York, NY (PRWEB) November 4, 2010
ZocDoc (http://www.zocdoc.com), the website to find physicians and book appointments online instantly, is working with several of NYC's top dentists (http://www.zocdoc.com/dentists) to prevent tooth decay and promote good oral hygiene in children with the Annual Candy Buy Back Program. For the month of November, ZocDoc is encouraging children to return their Halloween goodies to local dentist affiliates in exchange for dollar bills.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tooth decay, or cavities, affect more than one-fourth of U.S. children aged 2–5 and half of those aged 12–15. Help ZocDoc prevent cavities by encouraging trick or treaters to establish good oral hygiene habits early on in life.
“There are 500,000 grams of sugar in one ton of candy,” says ZocDoc COO and co-founder Oliver Kharraz MD. “Our goal for this program is to not only promote oral hygiene and healthy teeth, but to also limit the sugar intake that inevitably happens right after Halloween.”
Participating dentists will offer children a cash reward of one dollar in exchange for every pound of candy they bring in. ZocDoc hopes to collect a minimum of one ton of candy throughout the month of November. Participating dentists include Nina Izhaky DDS, Theresa Mueller DDS, Sharde Harvey DDS, Oleg Klempner DDS, Evelina Tolchinsky DDS, Daniell Mishaan DDS, and Lyris Mansoor DDS. “I think the program is a great program, because it gives kids a chance to come to a dental office and do something fun, like trade in their candy for money,” said Dr. Sharde Harvey DDS. “This may expose them to a dental office in a fun way (as opposed to how they really see it as a scary place where they get shots and have to get their teeth drilled!).”
ZocDoc.com enables users to find and review doctors, search based off of insurance and book appointments for free 24/7. ZocDoc has more than 1.5 million available appointments at any given time with primary care physicians and dentists as well as specialists such as dermatologists, orthopedic surgeons, allergists and psychologists.
"ZocDoc is health reform everyone can agree on," said ZocDoc CEO and co-founder Cyrus Massoumi. "We're simplifying a process that has been too difficult for too long. Patients, doctors and hospitals are all finding ZocDoc to be an incredibly valuable tool to improve the way people book doctor appointments."
ZocDoc was founded in 2007 by Cyrus Massoumi, Dr. Oliver Kharraz and Nick Ganju.
The company is funded by Khosla Ventures, Founders Fund, Bezos Expeditions (the personal investment company of Jeff Bezos), and Salesforce.com founder Marc Benioff.
