White goods giant promises less than 24 hours delivery time on all products with new site

NextDayAppliances.com takes online retail a step closer to its ideal

Order a large kitchen appliance from NextDayAppliances.com before 7pm and it will arrive on the very next day. The premise behind the site, which is due to launch in mind November, is when people order a new washing machine they need it now – not in 3-5 working days or 2-4 weeks.

“NextDayAppliances.com takes online retail a step closer to its ideal,” says Andrew Kirkcaldy, marketing manager for DRL, “there are some industries where you have to order weeks in advance and can’t choose your delivery date at the point of purchase. If we can deliver an American fridge freezer anywhere in the UK on any day of the week the day after it has been ordered we will prove that there is no reason for any retailer to offer anything less.”

The infrastructure behind NextDayAppliances.com has been tested on the DRL group’s other websites including Appliances Online and Appliance Deals however this will be the first time that a major white goods retailer has offered an exclusively next day delivery service.

In order to provide this service DRL have had to implement a series of radical changes that stretches from their stock management systems right the way through to how they deliver their product. This was largely made possible by the acquisition of Expert Logistics in 2009.

DRL is currently looking for journalists to review its delivery service. Reviewers will order an appliance of their choice between 6pm and 7pm on a day of their choosing. This will be a mystery shopper style review so after contacting the journalist DRL will know nothing about their plans until they reimburse them for their purchase.
DRL was established in 2000 as an online white goods retailer and in 2009 acquired Expert Logistics; they now benefit from their own dedicated delivery fleet and employ over 420 people in their Bolton & Radcliffe based offices. The company’s client list includes Boots, Marks and Spencer, Next, House of Fraser, Debenhams, B&Q, Argos, Empire Direct and Screwfix, as well as distribution clients such as Tesco. DRL also has its own retail websites, Appliances Online and Appliance Deals and customer review site, Appliance Reviews. In 2008 DRL was ranked 28th in The Times Fast Track 100 for sales growth.
