Special bonds are formed between U.S. soldiers who have and are serving side by side in the U.S. Armed Forces. These bonds often withstand the test of time precisely because of the unique and often difficult circumstances under which they were formed in the military. With this idea in mind, in 2000 a U.S. military veteran created http://www.VetFriends.com - an online community that has grown to over 1,100,000 U.S. veterans, military, family and friend supporters. The mission of the site: to reunite and support veterans and military personnel.
In 2000 the idea of an online veteran registry came to its veteran founder, former Corporal D.F. Sutcliffe, during a conversation with his father-in-law who is a Korean War veteran. When asked whether he would attend a hypothetical reunion with his old Army unit, his father-in-law responded, "I'd be on the next plane to Korea to see those guys." Reflecting on the depth of this reply, Sutcliffe realized that the special bonds of military brother and sisterhood often withstand the test of time. Now, these bonds can be re-established through modern technology.
