New York City Plastic Surgeon Named President-Elect of ASPS

Malcolm Z. Roth, MD, F.A.C.S., the Director of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn was named President-Elect of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) at Plastic Surgery 2010, the Society’s annual scientific assembly. As ASPS President-Elect, Dr. Roth will focus on patient safety and education regarding plastic surgery choices.

Malcolm Z. Roth, MD, F.A.C.S., the Director of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn was named President-Elect of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) at Plastic Surgery 2010, the Society’s annual scientific assembly. As ASPS President-Elect, Dr. Roth will focus on patient safety and education regarding plastic surgery choices.

“Patient safety is the number one priority. The best way to ensure that is to educate patients about the vast choices of procedures and providers so they can make informed decisions that lead to a positive outcome,” said Dr. Roth. “Patients need to do their homework and ask lots of questions of their prospective medical provider. As President-Elect of the ASPS, I will seize every opportunity to convey that critical message.”

An ASPS Member Surgeon since 1991, Dr. Roth has been a member of several ASPS committees including Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee and Vice President of Health Policy and Advocacy. Here in New York in addition to practicing plastic surgery in Brooklyn and Manhattan, he has held positions including President of the New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons, President of the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand, President of the New York County Medical Society, and was Chairman of the Plastic Surgery Section of the New York Academy of Medicine, among others.

Dr. Roth has been in practice for 22 years and acquired his American Board of Plastic Surgery Certification in 1991. He graduated with his medical degree in 1982 from New York Medical College, New York. He then completed his General Surgery training at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York, New York. Dr. Roth then went on to complete a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center, New York. Continuing his education, Dr. Roth went to The Hospital for Special Surgery, where he completed a hand and microsurgery fellowship.

Dr. Roth is also a published author and frequent lecturer. He lives in Westchester County where he enjoys spending time with his partner Lisa and daughters, Melanie, 22 and Caroline, 18.
