Students from around the world looking for university scholarships to study in Australia now have more options thanks to Murdoch University's new International Discoverers' Scholarship Scheme.

Under the new scheme, Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia, will offer tuition fee scholarships to international students who wish to study at its Perth campuses in 2011.

Depending on the course selected, eligible students could receive between AUD $500 and AUD $5500 towards their annual fees for the duration of their studies. The scholarship scheme applies to a wide range of Murdoch undergraduate courses, including popular courses such as

Accounting
Computer Science
Psychology
Games Art and Design

Murdoch's Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor Gary Martin said that the scholarship scheme has been designed to attract more international students to Australia during tough economic times for other countries.

"The performance of the Australia dollar has been, and continues to be strong, and this puts the possibility of studying in Perth out of reach for some prospective international students", said Professor Martin.

"For that reason we have decided to provide some financial support for students who wish to study at one of our campuses in Perth. I expect that the scheme will make an international education experience more affordable for many prospective students".

Facilities and initiatives for international students at Murdoch

Professor Martin said the Murdoch International Discoverers' Scholarship Scheme was one of a number of initiatives that the university had developed to enhance the international student experience at Murdoch. "We have also introduced a dedicated 24/7 student support telephone service, the first in Australia, so that international students can be reassured that whatever the time of day or night, they can contact somebody if there is a need", he said.

"And our brand new Student Centre provides a single place on campus where students can get course and visa advice".

Professor Martin said that the extension of Murdoch Village, which housed many international students, included new facilities such as a swimming pool and BBQ areas. "This means that on-campus accommodation at Murdoch has never been more attractive", he said.
