There’s nothing quite like the excitement of the few weeks before your holiday. Counting down the days, planning your trip, imagining the big nights and lazy days (or perhaps the other way around) and getting everything packed for the big trip. There’s also the practical preparations – buying travel insurance, ordering foreign currency and getting travel advice from the experts.

That’s why Barclays has teamed up with travel specialists Lonely Planet to bring you the Holiday Countdown App as part of our bumper Travel Unravelled section. You can customise its appearance depending on where you’re heading and what kind of trip you’ve planned. As well as the countdown to departure, the app offers tips from Barclays on saving money and managing your cash while you’re abroad, and travel advice from Lonely Planet on making your trip go smoothly.

The Countdown App is just the latest offer from Barclays Travel Unravelled, following the 30 per cent discount on all Lonely Planet guidebooks (expiry date TBC) and the free downloadable pocket phrasebooks – available in Spanish, Italian and Portuguese with French and German soon to follow.

Travel Unravelled also features travel advice articles written by Lonely Planet on packing and preparation, finding your dream destination and budgeting for your trip. There’s a travel calendar, a holiday checklist and guides to using your debit cards abroad and buying travel insurance. You’ll still find all the usual Barclays travel services as well, such as ordering foreign currency or finding out which ATMs will charge you less for using your debit card abroad.

Dan Wass, Head of Current Accounts of Barclays, says: “When a colleague or customer goes aboard, we can help make their lives much easier through reminding them of our convenient range of travel products. Lonely planet is a massive brand in the world of independent travel and many of us will already use and trust its guidebooks.

“For Barclays, teaming up with the Lonely Planet means that, as well as our own services, we can now also offer customers and colleagues an exclusive source of free phrase books, information, tools and advice from the leading name in travel guidebooks. It’s a brilliant example of how Barclays can add richness and value to our overall customer offering, so please visit the site and spread the word."
