L-com, Inc, a global leader in the manufacture of wired and wireless connectivity products, today added semi-rigid and formable style coaxial cables to its product line. Manufactured in the USA, these cable assemblies are made using state-of-the-art equipment and are tested to ensure the highest quality.

"Now we can offer off-the-shelf and even custom semi-rigid and formable cables, which our customers have been requesting," said Ken Burgner, Product Manager for coaxial products. "In addition to our standard cable types, we can build cable assemblies using semi-rigid low-loss aluminum or copper cable from sizes of .047 to .250 with a wide array of available connector types."

L-com's standard line of semi-rigid and formable coaxial cables now includes:

  •     .085 Semi-Rigid and Formable cable
  •     .141 Semi-Rigid and Formable cable

What is Semi-Rigid Cable?

Semi-rigid cable is a coaxial form using a solid copper outer sheath. This type of coax offers superior screening compared to cables with a braided outer conductor, especially at higher frequencies. The major disadvantage is that the cable, as its name implies, is not very flexible, and is not intended to be flexed after initial forming. This type of cable is also called "hard line" cable.

What is Formable?

Formable cable (or known as conformable cable) is a flexible, re-formable alternative to semi-rigid coaxial cable used where flexibility is required. Conformable cable can be stripped and formed by hand without the need for specialist tools, similar to standard coaxial cable. This cable type is ideal for laying out and designing pre-bent semi-rigid assemblies.
