While our competitors continue to make statements about introducing embedded SIM chip technology sometime in 2010 and most recently they are promising delivery in 2011, we’ve put over 100,000 units in the field. The competition is in catch-up mode again

iMETRIK Automotive Solutions Inc. a global leader in machine-to-machine (M2M) embedded wireless solutions continued dominance of the subprime payment assurance landscape was further underlined today. It announced that sometime last week, the 100,000th device embedded with a SIM chip was shipped out to its clients.

iMETRIK CEO Guy Chevrette said: “While our competitors continue to make statements about introducing embedded SIM chip technology sometime in 2010 and most recently they are promising delivery in 2011, we’ve put over 100,000 units in the field. The competition is in catch-up mode again”.

In recent years, iMETRIK has invested in the development, testing and manufacturing of embedded GPS devices provisioned with SIM chips, a substantial improvement of the traditional SIM cards. The SIM chip is made of heat resistant silicon (unlike the plastic SIM card designed for telephone use) in order to withstand the harsh automotive environment and extreme temperatures that the GPS devices are often exposed to. As the chip is soldered directly to the circuit board, it is much more capable than the removable plastic SIM card of withstanding vibration, shock and corrosion. The small size of the SIM Chip also makes for more compact design giving the opportunity for more discrete installation.

These physical characteristics of the SIM chip results in performance on the IMETRIK wireless GSM network and reduces the risk of the devices losing connectivity; again another problem with the removable plastic SIM cards. iMETRIK currently operates its own wireless cellular network providing seamless connectivity in over 120 countries and unlike the competition charge no monthly airtime fees or annual reactivation fees.
Chevrette added: "At iMETRIK, we constantly strive to develop our global M2M communication capabilities so that we deliver the best quality and have the most up-to-date device available fro the automotive aftermarket. Our investment in SIM Chips clearly shows our commitment to this market, giving our customers a product and service on which they can rely."
