Researchers Investigate Role of Exercise as Part of a Healthy Pregnancy Diet Plan

Researchers at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore have begun studying the impact exercise has on fetal development. The study includes sixty pregnant women in their third trimester and involves close monitoring of both mother and baby during the moderate to vigorous treadmill exercise.

It is hoped that the data gleaned from this study will provide researchers with the information they need to develop workout routines custom tailored for those at various levels of fitness.

Dr. Andrew J. Satin, professor and vice chairman of the department of gynecology and obstetrics for Hopkins School of Medicine explains, “We do know that not only can exercise be done, it should be done.”
