Pain is an experience that people try to avoid, but often times it’s inevitable. One can only imagine what it feels like to feel chronic pain every single day. Author Mary Patrick shares Pain: Live Well With It, a chronicle of the many years she suffered from physical and emotional pain, and how she finally found the solace to deal with it.
For the author, the burden that she is carrying for a very long time now is the chronic pain that comes along with fibromyalgia and temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD). The journey with pain and fatigue began when she was a college student, and has progressed through marriage, motherhood, being a full-time college instructor, and a retiree. Living with this chronic pain for over forty years has taught her many valuable lessons. Taking a personal approach, she now imparts these lessons to millions of others who share the same unkind challenge. Pain: Live Well With It is equipped with important guidelines that should be remembered when dealing with chronic pain. It exudes the importance of educating oneself about the pain, of monitoring the changes of the weight of the illness, and especially, of having a personal “guardian angel” in the person of a loved one.
From simple and essential tools like pillows to housekeeping and workspace, Patrick provides readers with practical guide and insights to make them see that coping, although hard, is indeed achievable. This edifying book is a handy guide that aids patients and their loved ones. There is no simple cure for chronic pain, but Pain: Live Well With It will make one see the blessings and hope that exist behind the mysterious and heartbreaking adversity.
This book will be featured at this year’s California Library Association Book Exhibit in Sacramento, CA on November 12-15, 2010. For more information, log on to Xlibris.com.
