Gordon Cook was nominated for being highly supportive of the National Guard by his Reserve Component employee, Capt. Thibault.

The support Verizon gave Capt. Denny Thibault, a member of the Georgia National Guard, went beyond what the law requires, which is why he nominated his supervisor, Gordon Cook, for the Employer Support of Guard and Reserve’s Patriot Award.
According to the Milton Herald, the captain said, “There’s no question, no doubt in my mind if Verizon weren’t as supportive as they are, I could not be in the National Guard and still support my family and keep my job. They’ve been nothing but supportive through my two deployments.”
Retired Adm. James McGarrah, ESGR Georgia Chair, said, “The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize employers who display support for their Guard and Reserve employees through supportive actions and personnel policies. Gordon Cook was nominated for being highly supportive of the National Guard by his Reserve Component employee, Capt. Thibault.”
Not only has Verizon supervisor, Gordon Cook, provided individual support to Capt. Thibault during his two deployments, Verizon donated $2,000 to the 1-108th Cavalry Fallen Soldiers Memorial at the Calhoun National Guard Armory in Calhoun, Ga., to honor the memory of fallen soldiers.
As the 1.3 million members of the National Guard and Reserve continue to perform an increasing number of unique missions on America’s borders and beyond, ESGR will continue to be a resource for the employers of citizen warriors. ESGR advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws, and resolves conflict between employers and service members.
