Tempe, AZ (PRWEB) November 10, 2010
This Veteran’s Day, the Pat Tillman Foundation is taking its support for America’s veterans wireless with the launch of a new mobile fundraising campaign. The effort will grow the Tillman Military Scholars program, created by the Pat Tillman Foundation to honor Pat’s legacy by helping America’s veterans return to their communities and achieve academic success.
Supporters can donate $10 to the Pat Tillman Foundation by texting "Tillman" to 50555 from any mobile phone with an account with a major wireless carrier. The $10 is then charged to the donor’s mobile phone bill. The texted donations are being handled by mGive, the same company that started the campaign to raise money for Haiti relief in a joint effort with the State Department and the Red Cross last January. The Pat Tillman Foundation will receive the total amount raised from the text donations.
In a public service announcement to be broadcast within University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday, Marie Tillman, founder and chair of the Pat Tillman Foundation, and Darnell Dockett, defensive tackle who currently plays for the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL, will announce the text campaign and ask Cardinals fans to contribute to the Pat Tillman Foundation In 2002, Pat Tillman proudly put his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals on hold to serve his country. Following Pat's death in 2004, while serving with the 75th Army Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan, his family and friends established the Pat Tillman Foundation. The public service announcement will play during the Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks game on November 14, at 2:15 MST/4:15 EST.
